Text from City of Los Angeles Resolution follows below:

WHEREAS the Better Vision For Children Foundation, a non-profit charity has been providing free eye screenings to children to prevent and cure partial and total blindness and death resulting from amblyopia (lazy eye) autism, diabetes and eye cancer for the past twenty six years: and

WHEREAS, U.S. Government and other studies have found that 25% to 35% of American school children start school with undetected vision problems that will negatively affect their learning and

WHEREAS while most vision related diseases are curable if detected and treated during the preschool years; and

WHEREAS over 80% of the learning process is visual; and

WHEREAS, Optometric publications refer to this problem as “‘The Children’s Vision Crisis”; and

WHEREAS, a San Diego State University study found that only 3.3% of preschoolers get a professional vision screening; and

WHEREAS, the most sought after jobs in professions and sports require good vision and hand-eye coordination; and

WHEREAS, parents, business, academia and sports entities want our children to succeed in their
field of dreams; and

WHEREAS, the City of Los Angeles is dedicated to enhancing and preserving the lives of our
children:

NOW, THEREFORE BE lT RESOLVED, that by the adoption of this Resolution by the City Council of the City of Los Angeles does hereby recognize the BETTER VlSlON FOR their efforts towards prevention and cure of eye disease in our children and encourages everyone to support this cause.
